The Horsham Fishing Competition is one of regional Victoria’s longest-running and most iconic fishing events, proudly held on the Wimmera River. First run in 1970, the inaugural competition made history when first prize was a Valiant car valued at $2,779, reflecting the excitement and scale of the event even in its earliest days.

Over the decades, the Horsham Fishing Comp has grown into a major Labour Day long-weekend attraction, drawing anglers, families and visitors from across Victoria and beyond. What began as a local fishing challenge has evolved into a celebrated community festival, offering camping, entertainment and a strong family atmosphere alongside competitive fishing.

Today, the competition is renowned for its significant prize pool, strong junior participation and commitment to showcasing the Wimmera River. It continues to play an important role in supporting local tourism, community spirit and responsible fishing traditions, while honouring a proud history spanning more than half a century.
